Vaccines prevent 4 deaths per minute and save $ 50 million per day

Estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO) and a group of 21 researchers, respectively, reveal that mass vaccination currently prevents at least 4 deaths per minute worldwide, an average of 2 to 3 million deaths annually. In addition, it generates savings equivalent to $ 50 million per day.

The calculations involve diseases such as diphtheria, measles, whooping cough, polio, rotavirus, pneumonia, diarrhea, rubella and tetanus. Most of them were controlled or eliminated in Brazil precisely with vaccination campaigns, but they can return quickly if the level of vaccinated people falls, as happened with measles. In Brazil, in 2019, there were almost 18 thousand confirmed cases of the disease, due to the reduction of the so-called vaccine coverage.

Economic benefits of vaccination

The impact of vaccines is calculated around the world also from an economic point of view. In 2017, a group of researchers calculated the losses caused by ten preventable diseases, including measles, rubella and hepatitis B.

The study calculates for two decades, from 2001 to 2020, based on hospitalization costs, drugs and transportation and lost productivity, among other points. Of the total estimated savings of US $ 350 billion - which is US $ 45 million per day, equivalent to R $ 250 million -, US $ 240 billion corresponds to what would be the adult income of these people who died prematurely. *

That is why Biotecno values life so much. Vaccination saves lives as immunobiologicals are stored and maintained correctly.
