Brazil will begin Oxford vaccine tests for Covid-19

The analysis will be supported by brazilian Ministry of Health and begins later this month. There will be 2.000 volunteers in all, in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Brazil will be part of the global vaccine development plan and is the first country, outside the United Kingdom, to have access to the antidote.

The procedure was approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) last Tuesday night, 2. In São Paulo, the studies will be led by the Reference Center for Special Immunobiologicals (CRIE), at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). The medical and equipment infrastructure will be financed by the Lemann Foundation.

Unifesp had the task of recruiting the first 1,000 volunteers, who must be at the forefront of fighting the disease and, therefore, more exposed to contact with the virus. Another 1,000 people will take part in the test in Rio de Janeiro. Other nations must also participate in the vaccine testing work. The results will be fundamental for the antidote to obtain the official registration, scheduled for the end of this year.
